PFLAG Austin Deirdre Furr Essay Prize is an annual LGBTQ themed essay contest in honor of Deirdre Furr, a Language Arts teacher at Georgetown High School who founded the districts first Gay Straight Alliance. 

This year the contest is open to high school age students in Central Texas.  Prizes are in cash.  First prize is $500, second prize is $200, and third prize is $100. The Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce Foundation is the sponsor of prizes this year.

This year's essay subject is: "What can be done to decrease the number of teen suicides in the LGBTQ+ community?"

Contest deadline was March 1, 2019.

Essays should be 500 to 1000 words and were due March 1st, 2019.
